Customer Reviews:
"When I first saw Confetti Leaves on the site, I wondered how in the world there could be 91 poems within
40 pages. I expected to see lots of haiku or epigrams. Boy, was I wrong! The format of this book makes
good use of every nook and cranny to include 2 or 3 poems per page, and it gives the appearance of 'confetti
leaves' falling down the page. Sally writes mostly rhyming poetry, but I still enjoyed a variety of forms
and styles. One of my favorite poems is In the Eyes of Yesterday which is also one of the few free verse
poems in this collection. Other poems I like are: Untitled, Reflections of a Stranger, Forestdawn, Rhythm
of the Rainmaker, Harvest Moon, and It All Started with a Packet of Seeds. There are so many wonderful
ones though, that it was hard to pick just a few favorites. I strongly urge you to buy, no, I mean
'experience' this book. It's the best layout of any other SP chapbook I've read thus far. Kudos to
Sally and Shadow Poetry for creating Confetti Leaves." - Poppy Hullings
"Confetti Leaves by Sally Ann Roberts is a compilation of poetry that show the
beauty of this artist's soul. It also shows the diversity of Sally's writing from the humor in "Ode To A Termite" to
the soft beauty of "Mozart At Dawn." The book is more than I expected. I received it just a day ago, but I
stayed up late reading it through. The confetti leaves that adorn the cover and cascade the pages of poetry
adds to the beauty of this book." - Floria Kelderhouse
"I really enjoyed reading Confetti Leaves by by Sally Ann Roberts. She is so talented and her
descriptions are so vivid that you are caught up in them. Her work captures your emotions." - Sandy
I received this book as a gift the other day. It's been a long while since I've sat down to read poetry, let
alone write any. But I couldn't put the book down. I read it straight through from cover to cover. It made
me want to write again. It made me re-live some special moments and past memories. It stirred a variety
of emotions and thoughts. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Way to go Sally! Love & Hugs, Johnny." - Sandy & Johnny Ellis
"Confetti Leaves is a charming chapbook with its motif of autumn leaves cleverly arranged
on page after page to its end. This book, which mostly portrays Sally Robert's love of nature, is chock-full
of sweetly rhymed poems such as the beautifully descriptive "Forest Dawn," "Harvest Moon," and "Longing
For the Autumn Wind," which are among my favorites. If nature poetry's your "bag," this little book you ought
to snag!" - Andrea Dietrich
"I was told that I would enjoy this chapbook, and boy was that person right! It's very interesting and
I'm so glad that I purchased a copy. It will definitely be one I'll read again and again. I'm a nature lover and this
book was right up my alley. It's chocked full of beautiful nature poems. There are many poems that are not
nature-related as well, such as “The Ragged Old House”, which is one of my favorites from the book. It may
only be 40 pages, but the space was used wisely – almost every page has at least two poems. Not only that,
it contains many different styles of poetry. Reading Confetti Leaves was a true delight and I highly
recommend this wonderful chapbook!" - Stacy Smith
"Some of the nature poems are very evocative. Having said that, I must confess that many of the
poems with rhyme and meter are simply not very good technically. There are some good ones, but so many
more of these poems could have been good if the author had been willing to spend more time to revise and
polish. I like "Charley," "Crazy Quilt," and the one near the end about Baby Sarah who weighed two pounds.
(I wish there had been a little more information about Sarah.)" - Deborah P. Cooper
"Sally Ann Roberts was raised in the peaceful woods of Oregon. She drew wisdom and
strength from the forest in youth and continues to do so today. Her poetry is
inspired by Nature, and influenced by the works of Edgar Allen Poe.
The classic poets, such as Poe, created skillfully rhymed verses laced with visual
pictures to capture the interest of their readers. Consider this excerpt
from "Longing for the Autumn Wind" as an example of Ms. Robert's style:
When prairie grasses
baked to brown
and parched like ancient bones,
then summer nights
refuse to cool
'Til autumn wind atones.
Simply and eloquently, in this excerpt from "To Live in a Cabin," the poet shares with
readers the joy of her mornings:
To live in a cabin far back in the woods
Is so peaceful, lovely, and bright.
The great golden sunrise breaks through every morning
And wakes all the forest with light.
This verse from "Seashell Voices" introduces another of Oregon's wonders – the ocean –
and the human curiosity that seeks its sound in small shore-bound shells :
Beyond the voice
within its depths
that we as humans hear,
where wave like tones
are ever kept
when held up to the ear.
In "The Works of Poe" Ms. Roberts shares his mystique. What made him great? Perhaps
the darkness of his spirit:
Black and gothic,
expelling ink,
dark phantom brings
from feathered quill
words of terror.
A tell tale heart,
morbid mood swings,
grotesque and shrill.
"Musical Muse" is delightful and imaginative. I chose the first verse in excerpt, but
the entire poem is exceptional:
Of all of the daughters,
the sisters of nine,
their father the myth God
Zeus.
Their various talents
from dancing to rhyme,
Euterpe's the musical
Muse.
Rhyming poetry is a rare commodity today. My thanks to Sally Ann Roberts for
reminding me how satisfying a well-constructed rhyming poem can be." - Laurel Johnson, Midwest Book Review
