The SP Quill Quarterly Magazine offers four fun and exciting contests: "The Quill Top 10," "I Found the
Quill Contest," "Word Wizard Competition," "Who Wrote It?," and "Flash Story Contest." For details and prizes,
please read each contest listing below or see the SP Quill Magazine for more details. The White Lotus Magazine
offers a Readers' Choice Award featuring the top three haiku/senryu per readers' votes displayed in each issue.
The Quill Top 10: Each issue of the SP Quill Quarterly Magazine will be stuffed
full of poetry from submitters, subscribers, and readers. It is up to the readers of the SP Quill
to choose their favorite poems in each issue. Everyone is welcome to come back each quarter
and vote for his or her choice of the top ten poems. The votes will be tallied and displayed
in the following issue. The poet/poem receiving the most votes for the quarter will receive
one free issue tacked on to his/her yearly subscription. If the winner is not a subscriber to
the SP Quill Quarterly Magazine, he/she will receive the next issue free of charge.
I Found the Quill Contest: In each issue of the SP Quill Quarterly Magazine, the
editor will hide an image of the quill featured to the side within the pages of an article, in artwork,
in the lines of a poem, etc.! It is up to the subscribers to find it within the magazine. When
the special image is found, SP Quill subscribers are welcome to write in and say they found
the hidden quill by stating where in the magazine it is located. For first five subscribers who correctly
locate the quill, we will them ship a chapbook of their choice from the Shadow Poetry Online Bookstore.
Sorry, non-subscribers are not eligible for this contest.
Word Wizard Competition: To write a poem of 8 to 16 lines using all ten words from a word list
provided within each issue of the SP Quill Magazine. You may use any form of the words given. Entry is free.
Poems must be typed with poet’s name, address, phone number, and e-mail address (if applicable) in the
upper left-hand corner. If submitting more than one poem, each poem must be typed on a separate sheet.
SASE required. Entries will not be returned. One winner to receive $10.00, a certificate, and a ribbon. The winning
entry will be published in the following issue. Deadline (in-hand): Same as magazine submission deadlines or
see magazine for more details. Sorry, entries cannot be accepted electronically, only by mail.
Who Wrote It?: In each issue of the SP Quill Quarterly Magazine, a stanza from a poem
written by a well-known poet will be featured. If you think you know who wrote these lines, e-mail the name
of the poet and title of the poem to Sally Ann Roberts in promotions to see if you are correct. If so, she will
send you a printable award to show you know your poetry! If you don’t have the internet and still want to
answer the challenge, send the SP Quill a note through the mail with the answer and a SASE for an award if
correct. The answer and credits will be printed in the following issue.
