Wrapped In Autumn’s Gold
It stands all wrapped in Autumn’s gold
A cottage meant for two;
Yellow, trimmed in creamy white,
And there, a cat or two.
I walk along a leafy path
That winds around its walls
And smile in sweet nostalgia as
Another soft leaf falls.
I see a child play in the yard
Where trees provide their shade
And love is flowing from this home
That loving folks have made.
The rustle of the passing wind
That dances through the air
Makes me a part of golden scene
As if I, too, can share
The voices singing, faces lost
Behind the window pane.
I had to walk on by this time,
But I’ll be back again.

Fog and Deer
A frisson touched, the morning slowly woke.
Into my soul a sharp awareness broke.
An echo whispered, almost silently.
I felt a presence passing close to me.
A steady pace, it wended on its way,
An almost shadow in this world of gray.
This cold new day, in which I hunkered down,
Still wrapped within the folds of her nightgown,
Touched my shoulders with her icy breath,
Reminding me she brought both life and death.
A spirit passed upon a winding trail.
With quiet strength, it left me feeling frail.
I fought and finally put aside my fear.
I stared into the soul of fog and deer.

Autumn’s Solitary Tree
Resplendent in your autumn glory,
Leaning to the sun,
Bright against a sapphire sky,
You beckon everyone
To come and join your worshipping
This glowing autumn day.
Your beauty in that peaceful field
Draws lovers out to play.
The lushness that you stand upon
So soft and welcoming
Will call them out as sure as blossoms
Woven through the spring
And you will let your bright leaves fall
To cover them with grace,
Granting them one magic moment
In this special place.

In Amethyst and Dawn
"Wake up", the sky has whispered to the lake
And covered its smooth face with purple hue.
The ripples rise as water seems to wake
And here I stand enraptured by its view.
The mountains stand in abstract ebony
And clouds approach to touch them tenderly.
I gaze towards the east in time to see
The smallest hint of gold the sun sets free.
Arise! Arise! Come walking on its shore.
The lake, in tones of amethyst and dawn,
More beautiful than it has been before,
Will rest within this moment, then it's gone.
So hurry now and view it all with me;
The wonder of the moment's tapestry.

Awesome Glory
When Birch Lords wear their scarlet cloaks
And overshadow Sky;
Then even Wind, in awe, must pass
A light and wistful sigh.
All creatures of the woods must stop
And bow beneath the sight
Of blazing leaves upon the world.
Even Eagle’s flight
Suspended up against the blue
That those below can’t see,
Is struck by all that loveliness
Spread out from tree to tree.
It catches breath and captures soul
Of all who gaze upon
The awesome glory God has made,
Which, all too soon, is gone.

In Supplication
Listening through the silence
We can almost hear her sing,
The lady of the river
As we line up in a string
Of worshipers to Autumn,
As the mirrored tones below
Reflect inverted dreams to us,
As pensively we go
Along the placid shoreline
To the bridge that crosses where
The crimson life of Autumn leaves
Add magic to the air.
Soon our footsteps echo
On the palings of the bridge
As we turn our eyes up to the church
That is hidden on the ridge.
Then our eyes, in supplication,
Turn behind us ‘til we see
God’s beauty painted lavishly
On every sunlit tree.
