A Child's Delight
I hear my Sunshine’s blissful cries
And see a twinkle in his eyes,
At the sight of snowflakes sailing down,
He jumps for joy and prances around,

Singing his snowflake song.

“Snowflakes! Snowflakes! oh so rare,
Snowflakes somersaulting in the air,
Shower upon my head today,
Bestow a winter blanket for my play.”

He pleads with me to go outside
To play before this treat subsides.
“Dress warm little sunshine, run along.”
Before I know it, he is far-gone.

Cavorting in this powdered treat,
With open arms the flakes he greets.
He makes a snowman craggy and plump
By an arbor near the old tree stump,

Singing his snowflake song.

“Snowflakes! Snowflakes! oh so rare,
Snowflakes somersaulting in the air,
Fall until I am tucked in bed
With a comfy blanket over my head.”

A Child's Prayer
Lord, as I lie on my bed
And think about today,
I really want to thank you
For making it so gay.

Thank you for my mom and dad
Like angels by my side.
For their tender love and care
And for food they provide.

Thank you for my caring friends,
For fun and games we share.
Without them I’ll be lonely,
Though sometimes they’re unfair.

Bless me as I go to sleep,
Send pleasant dreams my way.
Guard me until the morning,
When I can run and play.

Bless This Baby...
Bless this baby girl so fine.
Bless her with a heart divine.
Nurture her with endless love,
Care her like a sacred dove.

Bless her as she turns one year.
Bless her feet to tread with care.
Teach her things she needs to know,
Praise her daily, watch her glow.

Bless her as she turns two years.
Bless her as you wipe the tears.
Hold her hands and lead the way,
Join her in her plays each day.

Bless her as she turns three years.
Bless her with cute angel bears.
Teach her daily how to pray,
And be grateful everyday.

Bless her as she turns four years.
Bless her when she cries in fear.
Always watch her when she plays,
Brighten her unhappy days.

Bless her as she turns five years.
Bless her world with hugs and cheers.
Guide her when she goes to school,
Teach her all the golden rules.

Bless this baby girl so fine.
Bless her with a heart divine.
Tend to her until she’s grown
And has babies of her own.

The Pest
My brother is a pest you see,
He pulls my hair and teases me.
When I cry out, he starts to cry
Then runs to Mom and tells a lie.

He calls me names like stinky face,
I get angry and start a chase.
Of course he runs and hugs mother
Who shouts, “Be nice to your brother!”

I clench my fist and walk away,
That little pest, I’ll make him pay.
I put a toy snake in his bed,
He runs and screams and bumps his head.

I laugh and laugh until I cry.
Mom looks at me and says I’m sly,
I’m happy now that he’s in pain,
I bet he’ll never fib again.

Although I call brother a pest,
He surely is the very best.
I’ll never part from him, you see,
Despite the fact, he bothers me.

Clouds
I often lie on velvet grass
And watch fleecy clouds lazily pass,
Smoothly cruising the clear blue sky,
This fluffy parade passes me by.

There goes a chubby little bull,
Or is it a lamb with wooly wool?
Here comes a silly looking kite,
Leading two kids in a pillow fight.

Now I see a pony with wings,
Or is it a huge bird in full swing?
Here comes a sailboat floating by,
In the cobalt waters of the sky.

I see more awe in this blue sea,
Like a fuzzy teddy in a tree,
I see a cat with a long tail
Sitting atop an enormous whale.

Where does this weird procession go
After it passes me by so slow?
Lying there I always wonder,
As I gaze at the vast blue yonder.

The Cherry Tree
There’s a sturdy cherry tree,
I tend to every day.
I give it food and water,
as in the breeze it sways.

In Springtime it is laden
With tiny white flowers.
Now my blooming cherry tree
beautifies the bowers.

By Summertime it transforms
into a shade of green.
Though all flowers have wilted
it never goes unseen.

Autumn comes dancing along,
stealing this green from me.
Multicolored glowing leaves
now fill my heart with glee.

Winter creeps in very slow
and strip my poor tree bare.
Now it sadly stands forlorn,
while I’m showered with care.

Though it does not bear cherries,
its beauty is sublime.
It fascinates me always
except for Wintertime.

Creatures Of The Deep
Down deep beneath the sapphire oceans,
Where strong tides wash the silver sand,
Dwell copious creatures of all kinds,
In a world that’s unique and grand.

Starfish crawl along the ocean floors,
Hunting for food by means of smell.
They adhere their tube feet to mussels,
Slowly pulling apart the shells.

A school of silver herrings zips by,
Swimming and swirling at top speed.
Eyes glistening like sparkling jewels,
They glide among the green seaweed.

Moray eels with their snaky bodies,
Hide among rocks during the day,
Wriggling out at night in search of food,
Devouring their unlucky prey.

Common dolphins leap out in the air,
Playfully putting on a show.
They dance joyfully on their tail fins,
And follow ships where’er they go.

When you look at the ocean’s surface,
Think about the vast underworld
Where tiny and majestic creatures,
Create an interesting world.

Squabbling Siblings
I glanced at my two kids and saw pure joy,
Candy and Randy were playing with toys.

They played calmly for ten minutes or so,
Then two best friends became each other’s foe.

Candy got mad, ‘cause Randy snatched her book,
“Give it back!” she yelled, with an angry look.

But he ran and teased, “Catch me if you can!”
So clever Miss Candy, thought of a plan.

“Hey little brat, I’ll cast a magic spell,
I’ll change you to a frog, then say farewell!”

“A frog! Can you really do that to me?”
“If you think I’m joking, just wait and see.”

Randy pondered, then handed her the book,
“I’m sorry, ” he cried, with a frightened look.

Grinning, she mumbled, “What a foolish boy!
Having a kid brother, my life I enjoy.”

All was still, as both went separate ways,
Randy scurried to his room, in a daze.

Then I heard, Knock! Knock! on his bedroom door,
Then Candy sweetly said, “Let’s play some more.”

Okay, I’ll play, don’t change me to a frog.”
“Then be very nice, little polliwog!”

Again, his face glowed, as he held a toy,
Candy winked and said, “What a silly boy!”

My Prayer
I pray there is no school today.
I pray my friends can come to play.
I pray sister can disappear
To a land far away from here.

Goodnight, My Angels
Goodnight my angels go to sleep,
May sweet dreams come your way,
Of fairies glowing like fireflies,
Around the rose haven you play.

Invite your cuddly teddy bears,
To this magical land tonight,
Hold hands together; sing along,
At the end of a rainbow bright.

Listen my babies, carefully,
For I’ll read a bedtime story,
Of a cute princess named Candy,
Who played amidst morning glory.

Slumber darlings until the morn,
And remember these words I say,
Oh glowing light and little king,
Don’t let anything stand in your way.

Morning
Morning is here
Open the window; greet the day.
Morning is here
Stretch your arms; inhale the fresh air.
Race outside; call out to the jay.
Savor the peonies in array
Morning is here.

Lilies of The Sea
Strange animals of the wonder sea
    with feathery floral features!
I love your crown of lacy
       petals on chalky stems.
         In pink, yellow, red,
              you decorate
               the bottom
                  of the
                    sea.

My Kindergartner
Time has come for my kindergartner
to learn to write the alphabet.
      He has trouble writing b’s,
       Confusing them with d’s,
            But his favorite
               letter of all
               twenty-six
                   is the
                     V

Animals
The lion is the king of beasts;
The tiger kills its prey then feasts;
The giraffe eats fruits, twigs and leaves;
The gray wolf prowls around like thieves;
The zebra grazes in grassland;
The elephant’s trunk is its hand;
The skunk sprays liquid with foul smells;
The monkey in the jungle dwells.

My Best Friend
I dress quickly and run outside
To join my best friend, James.
We share seats on the big school bus
And talk about our baseball games.

At lunchtime we eat together
And we play on the same tag team.
We share apple juice and French fries
And yummy vanilla ice cream.

After school, he comes to my house
And we ride our bikes down the street.
Around the neighborhood we go,
Waving to the neighbors we meet.

Then we jump on my trampoline,
Up and down like a rubber ball.
Mom stands close by and warns us,
“Jump one by one or you will fall.”

When it’s dark, we sit on his porch.
We’re not scared when we’re together.
Then I squeeze his hand and say,
You are my best friend, forever!”

My Kite
When daddy gave me allowance,
I raced to the store in delight,
To buy me supplies I needed
To assemble a paper kite.

I bought some bluish black paper
Like the plumage of the bird, kite.
I bought a roll of sturdy line
And thin paper in brilliant white.

I made the frame from sticks I stashed,
Securing it tautly with line.
The frame was that of a flat kite-
The oldest, most basic design.

I glued on a pair of white ears,
Glued frills on the edges, around.
I gave it tail made from cloth strips,
I ripped from my sister’s old gown.

I held my kite in both my hands
As I hurried to open land.
Grateful it was a windy day,
I let some line out of my hand.

I bellowed as it ascended
And soared way into the blue sky.
The wind was participating
For I saw my kite flying high.

Soon it was a speck way up there,
For I had let out all the line.
Of all the kites flying that day,
Not one did soar, as high as mine.

Snowflakes
Snowflakes are falling all around.
They land on mountain peaks.
On rooftops and bare limbs of trees
And on my chubby cheeks.

Snowflakes are glistening on the ground,
Bringing me great delight.
Majestic pines and holly trees,
They decorate in white.

Fluffy snowflakes, oh, so lovely
Like feathers floating by.
Oh, to be a snowflake
Descending from the sky.

Ryan (acrostic)
Red crunchy apples, I adore.
Yummy bananas, give me more.
A bowl of sweet cherries, if you may.
No veggies mom, take them away!

The Tiff
Two little kids went out to play
In their backyard one summer day.
They gazed at cotton candy sky,
And argued as the clouds sailed by.

“There goes a fluffy sheep!” Tim cried,
As Kimmy scrutinized the sky.
“I do not see a sheep,” she said.
“I see a flock of birds, instead.”

“How lovely are the birds!” said he.
“Look there’s a swarm of bumble bees,
And there goes a train, a foot long!”
“Oh no brother, you are so wrong.”

“Pesky Kimmy, don’t be a pain,
‘Cos you are driving me insane.
Go away and leave me alone
To just imagine on my own!”

“Okay then, I’ll leave you alone,
But when you see a shape unknown,
Do not go screaming out to me,
‘Cos I won’t tell you what I see.”

“Leave me alone and let me be,
I don’t need you to play with me!”
Feeling lonely, she blurted out,
“If you need me just give a shout!”

Willie Winkie
(Inspired by Mother Goose "Peter Piper...)

        Willie Winkie won a wacky wrist watch;
        A wacky wrist watch Willie Winkie won;
If Willie Winkie won a wacky wrist watch,
Where’s the wacky wrist watch Willie Winkie won?

Dear Mr. Santa Claus
Dear Mr. Santa Claus,
How do you do today?
This is your friend Johnny.
Please listen and obey.

You see my dear Santa,
Mom says you like good boys.
I always clean my room.
Please send me some new toys.

I wish for an X-Box,
A Gameboy if you may,
A game of Chutes & Ladders
To play with everyday.

I wish for a wrist watch,
Legos, to build a ship,
A boat and an airplane
Or any toy that's hip.

On second thoughts Santa
I’ll buy those at the mall,
Don’t want to sound greedy.
Just send me a baseball.

Little Brother
Little brother hurry along.
Why do you stop and turn?
Little brother hurry along.
You make my stomach churn.

Why do you look so sad today?
Tell me what’s on your mind.
Why do you look so sad today?
Let me help you unwind.

Sister, I am thinking of you,
How much I love you so.
Sister, I am thinking of you,
More than you’ll ever know.

I look up to you big sister,
How hard you work each day.
I look up to you big sister,
For you each day I pray.

I love you little brother,
We’ll never be apart.
I love you little brother,
From the bottom of my heart.
