Chorus Flight
Time to go to contest, ‘tis in a far off place,
Chorus members have prepared, handled all with grace.
Paid our fees, packed our bags, now loaded every case,
On the way to strut our stuff, guarding our best bass!
With some wives and loved ones, we’re nearly ninety-five,
Flying for a weekend, of fun that makes us thrive!
Getting to the gate, aircraft crew and staff arrive,
Tenors seem all hyped up, sure hope they will survive.
Newbies chat so nervously; as we pass the time,
One acts choreography, in his world of mime!
Gate staff now declares delay, with a ring-tone chime,
Two leads use the tone as cue, start a song sublime.
Chorus members join the song; stopping all who hear,
Harmony in its glory; filling every ear!
Two more songs amid applause, what an atmosphere,
Music’ly endearing - each singing cavalier!
List’ners ask for contacts, expressing their delight,
Soon we’ve walked on board the plane, then we sing mid flight!
Singing in the terminal, singing sans footlight,
Singing every chance we get fits our appetite!
Loved ones take this all in stride, as our prime mainstay,
Happy being supportive, urging us to play!
Our children often join us; fam’ly is okay,
Sharing love of music is the barbershop way!

Singing Valentine
Four of us walked in the store, happy as could be,
Looking for a Valentine we could score with glee!
She was checking groceries, checkout number three,
Now in line we wait our turn, with a chunk of Brie.
Turning now to greet us, her smile is shining bright,
Before she checks our Brie, we give a rose delight!
Shocked, confused and stammering, we increase her plight,
We start to sing a love song, bringing her to fright!
Caught off guard she blushes, the whole store stops to see,
Watching how this sweetheart, will grasp our harmony.
Finishing two love songs, a card we give with glee,
So she knows the Valentine, of this reverie!
Warmest wishes and her thanks send us on our way,
Knowing we’ve delivered, some happiness today.
Quartet singing stimulates and we’d like to say,
Hope your heart has warmed a bit, on this caring day.

The Bulletin Editor
I sing barbershop music! It really is a thrill!
My voice may not be perfect, probably never will,
But these guys accept me, as someone who can fulfill
My promise as a member; a guy who has goodwill!
Yet far beyond the singing, I’ve duties to perform,
Like everyone before me, we tackle tasks as norm.
Writing/editing is my game, rousing my brainstorm,
So I’ll take the bulletin, to humor and inform!
They didn’t set my budget; I nearly broke the bank,
With my first edition, I was sure I’d walk the plank!
As I learn each member’s name, I struggle with his rank,
Learning music and my craft, the mentors I must thank!
Collecting information, while learning music too,
Suddenly stage presence, is added into this brew!
Confidence grows, heart swells, before bidding my adieu,
I’m going to learn it all, then report it to the crew!

District Competition: A Love Fest
We’ve bused our way to Spokane; they will be our host,
For this competition, where singers give their most!
Confidently humming, we’re happy innermost,
Entering the hotel, some people think we’re dosed!
I was unprepared for, the scene that did unfold,
Nothing outside warned me, of joys my eyes behold!
People hugging, laughing, backslapping was fourfold,
Euphoric’ly its chaos; love one thousand fold!
Wrestling through the crowd, we check in and pay the bill,
Get our keys, find our room, unpack and find my quill!
With my singing roommate, we venture forth to fill,
All the joy and singing, three thousand can instill!
Quartets move together, fam’ly not far away,
Sharing every chance they get, one new Tag today.
Quartets in most corners, there’s more in each stairway,
Everywhere you look, it’s a musi-cal midway!
Best voices can be heard, above the din of sound,
Families and old friends chat, others are inbound.
Friendship, camaraderie, all good things resound,
Knowing in just two short days, winners will be crowned!
Watching, listening, learning, we sang a note or two,
Learning from district members, what we need to do.
At one we’ve retired, escaping this to-do,
We just hope the quartets - will co-op-er-ate too!
