Primroses
How deep the tone primroses bring
When first appearing; late, late Spring
No clover in a field of green
Could overpower such a scene
As when primroses have their fling.
The speechless robin cannot sing
But gapes in awe at such a thing
As earth, each March, begins to preen;
How deep the tone.
Old fence posts, like a broken string
Weave in and out and bluebells ring
The fields where once bare earth had been;
More wondrous sight I've never seen,
When Spring erases Winter’s sting,
How deep the tone.

The Day Has Come
The day has come. Don’t hesitate.
There is no reason left to wait
As warmth returns ‘neath sunny skies
And brings a sparkle to your eyes.
The blossoms wake to celebrate.
Arise! Arise! It’s getting late.
The roses by the garden gate
Are dancing to the Spring’s soft sighs.
The day has come.
The Winter knows March brings the date
When clover’s green will infiltrate
Each corner where the bare earth lies
And, even though the Winter tries,
The strength of Spring becomes too great.
The day has come.

Stalwart Soldiers
Marching on the clover meadow
Stalwart soldiers, on we go,
Past the green fields, on our quest,
Onward, onward, never rest
We march quickly, never slow.
There is danger here we know
We can see its evil glow
It will put us to the test,
Marching on.
Marching, marching, to and fro,
Ten years old, we seek the foe
Over field and mountain crest,
Tim and I will do our best
To lay the evil doers low,
Marching on.

As I Was Warmed
As I was warmed by golden sun
And felt its peace when it was done,
A patch of clover, barely seen,
Reflected sun in jaunty green
As Winter fell and Spring had won.
I watched the children laugh and run.
I felt my spirit join their fun,
The lifting of a winter screen
As I was warmed.
Time called for rain, but there was none.
A brand new season had begun
And March had painted pastel scene
As Jack Frost tried, once more, to gleen
A final chill, but found not one
As I was warmed.

A Morning View
As morning rose in disarray
A butterfly came out to play
A beauty, stark against the blue,
So tiny in its golden hue.
‘Twas just by chance it passed my way.
A broken wing caused it to stray
Past clover fields. Their green display
A sweet March blanket ‘cross the view
As morning rose.
The blissful buttercups did sway.
Their blossoms took my breath away.
The butterfly enjoyed this, too,
The blaze a sign that Spring is new
And soft green grass bent low to pray
As morning rose.

Beneath A Summer Sky
Green Clover filled the earth beneath a summer sky
And golden clouds laid claim to sparrows flying by.
A villa glistened white beneath a blazing sun.
The colours seemed to settle down on everyone.
Forgotten, March caressed me with a gentle sigh.
A voice called to another, a resounding cry,
Another hummed a long forgotten lullaby
Although this magic day had only just begun
Beneath a summer sky.
I couldn’t take it in. I didn’t even try;
Just closed my eyes and let the essence take me high
Thinking how my children would have loved to run
Amongst the daisies; how they might have come undone
Until they joined the sparrows and they learned to fly
Beneath a summer sky.

In Crystal Coats
In crystal coats, the apple trees
Above the stream are fantasies
A frozen view of Winter’s psalm
Caught in the frigid late March calm
Like sailing ships on painted seas.
Green clover fields are memories
A picnic bench sits in the freeze
And dreams about the summer’s balm
In crystal coats.
There is no hint of wind or breeze
Yet icicles make melodies
As if a flute held in the palm
Brings Jack Frost to a winter prom
And winter white is all he sees
In crystal coats.

Look Heavenward
Look heavenward, the skies still dance,
This March is full of sweet romance
As rainbows mate with golden light
And morning strolls towards the night,
Their waltzing movements souls entrance.
Keep on looking. If you should chance
To catch a fairy in your glance
Don’t let her know or she’ll take flight.
Look heavenward.
The mountains, in their quiet stance,
Seem quite enthralled and, in a trance,
Green fields of clover fill my sight
And, overhead, the gulls take flight.
The wind has made the soft clouds prance.
Look heavenward.

On Rainbow Street
On Rainbow Street with its bright face,
So vibrant, like a a fairy place
That catches thoughts and pulls them in
While all the dreams begin to spin
As beating heart begins to race
March fills my soul with silent grace.
All worries leave without a trace
As voices shout, a merry din
On Rainbow Street.
The clover sits, like soft, green lace
As life takes on a gentle pace.
Today my holidays begin,
As rich as any chocolate sin.
All stress I’ll let the days erase
On Rainbow Street.

That Street In Spain
That street in Spain, where we first met,
All cloaked in green I can’t forget.
The month of March means I review
Those golden days when I met you
Though each day’s getting better yet.
There is no moment I regret.
I owe that little street a debt
For clover fields that we walk through,
That street in Spain.
Yes, you and I are truly set,
Our life a rhyming triolet,
Enduring love a dream come true,
A vista of such rosy hue;
The reason for this dream duet,
That street in Spain.

The Battle of the Sun
He sets the world on fire as he slips away
Not giving up his hold on the receding day.
The waters hold his anger in their crimson light
As Sun wages his battle on the coming night.
And those who are his witness quickly kneel to pray.
The temples beckon weakly in their shades of grey,
No clover green within the fire allowed to stray.
As shadows start their march within this awesome sight
He sets the world on fire.
Yes, awesome is the power that comes into play
As time moves into night who has the final say
And points towards the Sun who flees in bitter flight
Unable to defend himself against this plight.
Time has no heart, relentless he will soon betray
He sets the world on fire.

The Heavens Dance
The heavens dance up there on high
With clouds awhirl and racing by.
March spreads her clover down below
Down where the green of meadows grow
A fair backdrop to waltzing sky.
A merry dance to greet the eye
Against the sound of robin's cry.
I've come! It's Spring! I've missed you so.
The heavens dance.
The trees sway low, the March winds sigh
A prom queen's pastel lullaby
With clouds adrift and dreams in tow;
A merry season, don't you know,
Whenever Winter’s on the fly,
The heavens dance.

We Just Made Love
We just made love. I watch you sleep
And pleasure fills this watch I keep,
Like clover fields, green in the sun,
Or March that tells us Winter’s done.
These feelings through my body seep.
My beating heart took one great leap
Into our love that runs so deep,
With no regrets, not even one.
We just made love.
With joy so strong I almost weep.
Into your very soul I creep
And what lies there my heart does stun,
For this sweet dream has just begun;
Gone loneliness without a peep.
We just made love.

When Winter Flees
When winter flees, we welcome Spring,
When March first kisses everything
And clover, green beneath the sky
Starts dancing as the winds go by.
Then swallows and the robins sing.
We know that each new day will bring
The dancing clouds, a fairy ring,
And blossoms on the trees will lie
When winter flees.
Then wild geese rise and, wing to wing,
Tell us the sun is opening
His weary eyes. Soon up on high
He’ll join in Nature’s lullaby
As grassy fields start beckoning,
When winter flees.
