Fashion
What to wear
Will it mess my hair
Set it aside, do I dare?
Partners just may stare
Or even give a glare
Be a geek, square?
Goggles, apron what a pair
Gloves stylish ne’er
Not a social affair
Science class I do declare
Teachers do take care
Of what to wear

Top

Be Safe
Safety
Imperative, inescapable
Practicing, relying, constraining
Assurance, security, uncertainty, vulnerability
Troubling, distressing, hindering
Crisis, disaster
Danger

Top

Beakers (a shape poem)
Liquid measurements are not exact
Whether using plastic or glass
Need 150 mL for watering
Bonsai trees, two or three
Saturate water, solute salt
5 mL at a time, eggs float
use hardboiled, with shell
for mixtures and solutions
a scientific measurement
for volume experiments

Top

Graduated Cylinder (a shape poem)
Graduated
Cylinder
Tall and
Slender
Exactly
Measure
The low
Not the
Higher
Liquid
Adheres
Measure carefully

Top

Scientific Measurement
When I need to measure length or distance it’s the meter
Volume or capacity I should use the liter
When mass is in question gram is the leader
With density it’s grams per cubic centimeter
I will use seconds when time I infer
Degrees in Celsius for temperature

Top

Density, Time Temperature
Density, time, temperature
Can be mastered by amateur
With teacher as guiding chauffeur
We will confer, we will confer

Density from mass and volume
Mass over volume to become
Derived quantity will succumb
Such tedium, such tedium

Time measurement it does surround
Atmosphere in which to abound
Moving, ticking, it’s so profound
The lack of sound, the lack of sound

Temperature with red line read
Fahrenheit scale is in my head
Convert Celsius this I dread
Formula thread, formula thread

Computations have relations
During our investigations
Write down all our observations
Write notations, write notations

Eleven
Nitrogen, oxygen
Eleven, to begin

Top

Oxides
There’s carbon dioxide
Not far, nitrous oxide

Top

Amounts
Argon and helium
Neon, at maximum

Top

Air
Air
Begin
Nitrogen
Each breath you take
Some of the oxygen
Water vapor, rain or snowflake
Argon, carbon dioxide plants at stake
Neon at night in all the lights at which we stare
Helium balloons, methane fuel we make
Hydrogen never a mistake
Nitrous oxide a grin
Ozone may break
It’s so thin
So when
Where

Top

Trepidation
A small portion of trepidation
The teacher issues without hesitation
About student and safety relation
For which there is no interpretation
Not listening will cause much agitation

Listening well brings teacher appreciation
When balances need calibration
Or changing color of a carnation
Waiting for chemical transformation
Students are eager to hear verbal citation

Top

Broken Chord
One note after another
The end of the pianist’s piece
Points
Gives direction
A scientist’s broken cord
Stops
Direction lost
Pull the plug

Soiled Again
Experiments can have a short material list
Much like the infamous soil material list

Just like in third and fourth
Same in fifth with its soil material list

Magic ingredients potting soil, clay and sand
Something new vermiculite added to our soil material list

Oh yes, seeds and water and plastic cups there are
With growing light now on the soil material list

Formulate a new mixture in which plants can grow
Now procedures to write together with the soil material list

Top

Making Soil
Making it fresh, not complicated
A little clay and potting soil
With sand and vermiculite
Some seeds, the rye will do
As one conflated
This will not spoil
Add some light
Made new
Right

Top

Raising Rye
Totally thought out
hypothesis written down
experiment completion the goal,
no.
Learning the process, getting results,
using materials, variables, and creative thinking;
ready to start
raising rye.

Look At The Aged Earth
Aged and old, how did it look years ago?
As layer upon layer lifted each high
Weather acold, wind, rain, sleet, hail, and came snow

Evidence earthquakes, mountain tops in the sky
Erosion not finished, left below my feet
Granite, sandstone, conglomerate, here they lie

Soil, shale, limestone, plant and animal defeat
Changing, now millions of years has brought us here
So models we build showing, confirming each

Plate motion, small change to our celestial sphere
Still turning, feeling, universal expanse
Forces in motion, landscapes will disappear

Mountain to ocean, ceremonial dance
Remember the model, take time, give a glance

Elevated Boil
Water to boiling point is brought
Eggs hard-boiled sought
Cook minutes three
Then eating be

Elevating to mountain top
Watch bubbles pop
Water rolling
Cooking slowing

Boiling point becoming lower
Eggs hard-boiled slower
Three minutes no
Few more to go

Top

Ozone
Ozone thin; holes extend
Thoughts chagrin; stop the trend

Top

Hurricane
Wind
counter
clockwise turns,
reaching for land
soon.

Top

Altitude
air
pressure
in mountains
elevated,
cooking temperatures now subordinate
should altitude accelerate the chore,
change the heat for
potatoes,
ready,
eat.

Research Thoroughly
Research thoroughly,
For research is key
Support the questions
We had sought to ask
Answers to the lessons
When a mind is put to task
When a mind is put to task
Answers to the lessons
We had sought to ask
Support the questions,
For research is key,
Research thoroughly

Top

Variables
Predict
Depict
Conflict
Restrict
Variables predict, depict, lead
Answers that we Conflict, Restrict, need

Top

Hypothesize
How can I hypothesize?
With a statement testable
So my teacher thinks me wise

To scientifically acculturize
Stating a dependent variable
How can I hypothesize?

I really need to conceptualize
An independent variable
So my teacher thinks me wise

How can I characterize
A variable controllable
How can I hypothesize?

Writing to euphonize
A statement understandable
So my teacher thinks me wise

I truly must realize
How can I hypothesize?
So my teacher thinks me wise

Top

The Unboiled Boil
The scientist set water to boil
Waiting for the hotplate’s bright red coil
Finally came bubbles
Not without some troubles
Mason jar sealed, ice is on top, spoiled

Top

Why Poetry?
Write poetry? Why write poetry?
Romantic stuff about a bird, tree
Do Science, you must think
Clearly, before you wink
With scientific clarity

Top

Morning Sounds
Interesting sound
Morning nature, wrapped, aroused
North, south, east, west, each
Ears tingle, hearing enhanced
Distance unknown waves afar

Top

Sounds
What sound sings shortly silently serene?
How lyrics longingly linger lazily
Where vibrant vibronic verses vicariously venture
When nature’s notes nourishingly nudge.
Why do timbre tones tantalize temperament?

Top

Egg
What will an egg do
in fresh water
or
in salt water?
How will it react,
float,
sink,
solvent or solute?
Where do eggs get
buoyancy?
When is the perfect time
to float an egg?
Why does
density play
a role?

Top

What How When Where Why
What do I see when looking in trees?
How many things, birds, bugs, honeybees
When morning light is shed
Where, outside out of bed
Why not listen, smile, forgot my keys

Top

Research
research
systematic
internet will be first
hopefully shortening my time
inquire
