How long have you been writing poetry?: I've been writing for over 30 years. I penned my first poem while bored to tears in a 7th grade civics class.
What/Who inspires you to write?: Primarily music, nature and diverse cultures inspire my writing as well as my creative friends. If it touches me it inspires me.
Favorite Quote or Motto: "Poetry is the song your spirit writes."
Writing Awards, Publications, and other Achievements: From her debut chapbook Red Lanterns the poem "Aberdeen Fishing Village" won the 2nd Muses Prize - Best Travel Poem of Year 2005 by Muses Review Magazine.
Joanne was the Featured Poet in the January 2006 issue of SP Quill Magazine and appeared as Featured Author on the Shadow Poetry Bookstore page for January - March 2006.
She was named Author of the Week on Muses Review for the period April 9 through April 15, 2006.
Red Lanterns has made the best seller list on the Shadow Poetry website for the period January through April 2006 and October 2006 thru January 2007.
Beginning November 2006 Joanne will be writing a regular monthly feature column titled "My Ode" for RainTiger magazine. Link will follow shortly.
Her travel articles and tips have been chosen for inclusion in the VirtualTourist's soon to be released San Francisco Travel Guide. Details coming soon.
