How long have you been writing poetry?: I guess I was born with the drive to write. My first poem was when I was in first grade..."It's a Cold Gray Day". I don't limit myself to just writing poetry. Writing itself is my passion. The freedom to express without inhibition the naked truth.
What/Who inspires you to write?: The hardcore realities of life.
Favorite Quote or Motto: There's no such thing as "I CAN'T".
Writing Awards, Publications, and other Achievements: Induction into International Society of Poets Washington, DC - 1997
Poet of Merit Award - 1997
Editor's Choice Award - 1998
Poem: "Shattered Innoncence" published in the anthology: Memories of Tomorrow - c. 1996
Poem: "A Rose Reborn" published in the anthology: New Pegasus - c. 2004
Poems: "Always There" and "Life's Small Treasures" published in the anthology: Explorer - c. 2004
Through the years I've written several hundred poems; several essays; short stories; childrens stories; short plays; and mime skits. Have done several public poetry readings. Many of my short-plays, and mime skits have been inspirational presentations for church events, as well as other non-profit community events. (Including storytelling from childrens stories I've authored.)
Additional Poet Information: Native of New York City; born of BORIKEN (Puerto Rican) parents in lower Manhatten. Grew up in (South) Bronx. Reflective in my writing --- all the (indigenous) Taino-Afric-Sephardi [Spanish Jew] ancestry and caribbean rhythms that flow through my veins. The experience of hardcore city life, personal observations, determination against all odds, victory over adversity, and faith in G-d, are at the root of all I write.
