Additional Poet Information: Paul Pascal (1900-1996) was a Swiss engineer who emigrated to the United States as a
young man. Paul was an inquisitive soul who began writing poetry in his
early nineties. His writing is submitted posthumously by long-time friend Mary
Ports, who assisted him throughout his later years. He described his style of
writing as "folk poetry" and salted it throughout with humor and epigrams. The
uniqueness of his poetry comes from an insatiable mind, eager for the truth.
He has studied, explored and traveled the world for nearly a century in his
quest for knowledge and growth.
With degrees in physics, mathematics and engineering, Pascal enjoyed a
successful career as an engineer for 44 years with leading companies like
Bechtel Corporation and Lockheed. Yet, he didn't know until his later years that
poetry "is the cream of my soul." At the age of 92 he was writing literally
volumes of poetry which tell, very simply, the story of his life, his feelings,
his substantial philosophy.
Pascal spoke French, Italian, Portuguese and "some English," he liked to
say. He never married, though he admits with a shy smile tht he came
'slightly close." And while he is not allied with any one religion, his spiritual
depths are reflected in his writings.
