James R. Hoye

How long have you been writing poetry?: I've been writing poetry for over 45 years and Song Lyrics for over 25.

What/Who inspires you to write?: Life inspires me, as does the human condition, mankind's history and mythology, and all the questions those subjects can raise.

Favorite Quote or Motto: "All things fall and are built again" by W.B. Yeats from "Lapus Lazuli

Writing Awards, Publications, and other Achievements: None to speak of directly related to my poetry. My publication credits are all old and in college or small press journels and have probably never been seen beyond a handful of people.

I have won 2d prize Country in the 2002 Billboard Song contest for my song "Standing Room only and have won 4 Quater Finalist awards for Songs in various contests ove rthe last 3 years and have numerous HMs both for songs and lyrics in Song Contests in the 1980s, but I consider Song lyrics on a different (and Lower level) than Poetry as they have fewer levels of meaning and are more restricted by the formats that songs require to be successful.

Additional Poet Information: I'm also inerested and very much involved in Photography and painting, (mostly watercolors) and turn to them when I develope any form of writer's block relative to my Poetry or Song. To be honest, my output in each of those fields may have been limited by that but the upside is that I always remain productive in some creative field.
