Dragon's Kiss

by lois thurman

The little girl sat by the window, looking out upon the stars twinkling in the sky, a silent tear fell from her eye, her mom and dad had informed her that her grandma was sick. The little girl was pondering over a journey she had to make tonight, when mom and dad were fast asleep.

The child's mother came into her room to tuck her into bed. The mother kissed Sara softly on the cheek, saying goodnight. After Sara's mother left the room, Sara got out of bed to get ready for her trip. She packed what she would be needing, then she climbed out her bedroom window.

Sara had heard from a friend, that if she could steal a dragon's kiss, her grandma would be healed. Sara knew of a dragon, but, she would have to travel far-away. The moon was bright, as Sara started on her way, it had started to rain lightly and the fog was heavy, but, Sara would not give up.

Sara climbed over rocky trails, almost slipping over the edge, she grew tired and stopped to rest, Sara took some cookies out of her bag, she ate them quickly, drank some water and was on her way. Sara came upon a stream, filled with slime, she guessed the dragon had drank from it, because it was green and foul smelling, she knew the dragon was close by, creepy shadows circled around the path, Sara was not afraid.

Sara took a few steps and spotted the dragon next to a cave entrance, the moonlight shining over him, the dragon was looking at Sara, he looked evil, He yelled at her, 'What do you want"? why are you here in my domain? Sara said, with a tremble in her voice, I have to get a kiss from you, the dragon laughed, a thundering sound, shaking the ground. why should I kiss you, he asked? you are so small, I just might eat you.

Sara said, I am not one bit afraid of you, I must get a kiss to heal my grandma, she is sick, and I love her very much, dragon replied, I don't care about anyone, I have no feelings, do you understand? Go away and leave me alone.

Sara sat down and began to weep very loudly, the tears falling freely, Sara looked up and the dragon was beside her, he quickly kissed her cheek, Sara screamed, your breath is awful, she said. Well Sara, said the dragon, you have to take the bad with the good.
